Visiting Overtoun...

Overtoun House and it's grounds are a bequeath to the people of West Dumbartonshire. The grounds are open to the public but the house is currently leased to the Hill family and is undergoing major renovation. We would like you to enjoy your visit but ask you to help us keep the grounds tidy.

Car Parking
Road access is through the East Gate. There are car parks infront of the house and on the left on the approach road to the house.

The House
Overtoun House is a marvellous example of Scottish Baronial architecture. However the interior of the house is not currently open to the public, but there are plans to provide a coffee shop and bed and breakfask accomodation inside in the future.

Picnic Area
There are a number of picnic benches outside the house. Please take your litter home with you.

Formal Gardens
The house was once surrounded by fabulous Formal Gardens incorporating both native and foriegn plants. They are not as impressive as they once were but they still give a good idea of what Victorian landscaped gardens looked like.

Nature Trails
Outside the gardens there is plenty to explore: the parklands, the pond, the Spairdie Linn waterfall and the woodlands. There are several trails that start at the bottom of the gardens and across the river bridge. Keep your eye out for wildlife and remember to respect that country code while you are rambling..
